INTEGRITY
My career has never been motivated by money, as I have dedicated my career to public service with the Public Defender. The Chicago Council of Lawyers added that I have been “...praised for being thoughtful and respectful while being a zealous advocate.”
EXPERIENCE
I have extensive trial experience and expertise in the rules of evidence. (“[MacCarthy]...is well regarded for his knowledge of the law and trial skills...[and] a leading expert on evidence.” Chicago Bar Association). My entire career has involved courtroom work, mostly at “26th and California”, where I handled thousands of cases, and tried more than five hundred cases. I am Lead Counsel Certified by the Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar, and have served the past seven years supervising Felony attorneys. I will avoid delays in our courts, because litigants and taxpayers deserve cost effective courtrooms. I regularly teach lawyers and have a national reputation as an excellent trial advocacy and evidence teacher and I teach for many groups, including the University of Chicago Law School.
TEMPERAMENT
As a judge, I will be polite, prompt and professional, and treat everyone with respect and dignity. I will give everyone a fair opportunity to present their case, as I recognize that each case is unique, and I will rule impartially, using compassion and common sense.
COMMUNITY
I am the proud parent of four children and I am committed to our community. I support and volunteer for many local charities and civic activities, including Mikva Challenge and the Chicago Public Schools. Remember, “You Deserve More - Punch #154!”
