ORGANIZATION STATEMENT

The Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) is the central labor body for over 300 Chicago area unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor – Congress of Industrial Organizations). The membership of these unions exceeds 500,000.

The CFL was formed in the late 1800s to strengthen the efforts of individual union locals by creating a unified voice for the city’s labor movement.

The main objective of the CFL, both when it formed over 100 years ago and continuing today, is to stand up for working men and women by supporting organizing efforts to ensure that workers’ rights upheld both on the job and in the courts.
